The studio

Twelve years learning to stop correcting the clay

I trained in Minnesota, spent a winter in Mashiko, Japan, and since 2017 I've worked out of a garage studio in Southeast Portland with two wheels and a gas kiln.

I mix my own glazes from wood ash and local feldspar. Every firing runs twenty-two hours and comes out a little different from the last one. That's the deal, and it's the part I like.

  • Dishwasher and microwave safe, every piece
  • Commissions for restaurants, hotels and shops
  • Open studio the first Saturday of the month

How I got here

Apprenticeships, a residency and the commission that changed the studio.

    Apprenticeship in Minnesota

Three years in a production pottery, throwing the same mug five hundred times until it stopped fighting back.

    A winter in Mashiko, Japan

Six months on ash glazes and high-temperature firing, mostly spent carrying wood.

  3. 2021

    Tableware for a Portland restaurant

Three hundred and forty pieces for a thirty-seat dining room. The commission that paid for the second wheel.

  4. 2025
