You play from the very first lesson
Piano, guitar, violin, drums, voice and wind, with proper music theory and bands where you play alongside others. No compulsory exams and no waiting two years to play a whole song. We also teach adults starting from scratch at forty.

What you can study
Instrument lessons are one to one and music theory is in a small group. You can take just the instrument, but anyone doing both progresses in half the time: we say so because it's true, not to charge you more.

Guitar and bass
from €62 a month
Classical, electric and bass. From age seven, and for adults who want to accompany their own singing without going through the whole theory course. Amps here at school: no need to lug your own.
Violin, viola and cello
from €62 a month
Strings from age five, with small rental instruments so you don't buy one that's outgrown in a year. String students play together in the Saturday ensemble.
Drums and percussion
from €62 a month
A soundproofed room with two kits, acoustic and electronic for the noisiest hours. You start with the snare and rhythm, and within three months you're playing a whole song with the band.
Voice
from €62 a month
Vocal technique, breathing and repertoire, modern or classical. It can be taken alone or alongside an instrument. For adults it's the most requested class after piano.
Music theory and bands
€38 and €32 a month
Music theory in groups of eight by level, one hour a week. And the bands, which is where you really learn: four or five students playing a repertoire they choose themselves.
Preparing for conservatoire entrance auditions? We do that separately, with an extra hour of theory a week. Ask in September.

ON TOP of the fee: a one-off €45 registration in September. Books and sheet music, €25-45 a year depending on instrument and level; bought at the shop on the corner, not here, and we give you the exact list in the first lesson. Rental of a small violin, viola or cello: €15 a month, with case and bow. Second sibling or second specialism: 10% off. Bands, choir and concerts are not charged separately: they're included in any instrument plan.

The score comes after the song, not before
Contrapunto was opened in 2010 by three musicians who had quit the conservatoire at fourteen out of boredom. We had nothing against theory: we had something against two years of theory before playing a single note.
Here you play from day one, and theory arrives when it's needed for whatever comes next, which is when it makes sense. Nobody sits an exam unless they want to. And every student, aged six or sixty, plays in front of people twice a year: it's the hardest part and the most useful.

Soundproofed roomAlways starts with rhythm using hands before anyone picks up a stick. Within three months his students join a band.
Replace the qualification placeholders with the real ones. People do look at that, especially when a family is paying.
The rooms and the instruments
Photos of instruments and rooms, not of students. When you add your own, do the same: most of your students are minors, and a photo of a room full of instruments sells just as well, without chasing image consent from thirty families.
Concerts and recitals
Two recitals a year in the main hall, plus the end-of-year concert at the neighbourhood auditorium. Free entry for families. Update these dates every September.

September questions
The same ones every year, so here they are.
What age can you start?
Strings and piano from age five. Guitar, drums and wind from seven, when hands and lungs are up to it. Voice from twelve, so as not to strain a changing voice. And there's no upper limit: we have students who started at sixty-three.
Do I have to buy the instrument?
To try, no: the school has pianos, guitars, drum kits and amps. To practise at home you do need one, and it depends: a small violin or cello can be rented here for €15 a month with case and bow, and a decent student guitar costs under €150. Before you spend a euro, ask your teacher.
Is music theory compulsory?
No. You can take just the instrument and some students do so for years. That said: those doing both progress roughly twice as fast, because they stop depending on the teacher naming every note. We recommend it, we don't impose it.
What if I miss a lesson one month?
With 24 hours' notice, a one-to-one lesson is made up within the same month, in whatever slot is free. Without notice, it isn't: the teacher was there waiting. Group lessons aren't made up, but they aren't charged separately either.
Do you prepare official exams?
We prepare conservatoire entrance auditions, with an extra hour of theory a week, and anyone who wants can sit external school exams. But nobody has to: most of our students never take an exam and play perfectly well.
I'm an adult and know nothing about music. Will I feel out of place?
A quarter of the school are adults, most of them starting from scratch. Lessons are one to one, from 8:00 pm, and there's an adult band on Thursdays to play with others in the same boat. The one honest warning: you need to practise at home for twenty minutes most days, and no school can fix that for you.
